Children’s Classes and Camps
Summer is
fast approaching and many parents are busy looking for fun and
educational activities for their children. If you find yourself
in that category, consider enrolling your children in Art Camp
at the Booth this summer. The Education Department at the Museum
has planned exciting and fun-filled summer camps just for kids.

Mixed Media Fun
(Ages 7 - 12)
Try it all…all kinds
of different art-making materials and techniques…in this fun-filled
art camp. Explore the fabulous art collection of the Booth Western
Art Museum. Meet and work with a professional artist. Try your hand
at a variety of art projects throughout the week including drawing,
painting, printmaking and mixed media.

3-D Sculpture
(Ages 7 - 12)
Move from the 2
dimensional world of paper and canvas into the third dimension of
sculpture. Discover the 3-D world of art production using model
magic, polymer clay, paper, wire and found objects as you take your
artistic skills to the next level.

Jr. Pottery
(Ages 7 and Up)
Come play in the
clay! There will be all new hand-building projects, and plenty of
time to work on the potter’s wheel. This program is for all levels
of clay enthusiasts.

Do you enjoy cartoons and comic books? Then this is the camp for
you! Learn from a real cartoonist who has worked with the Cartoon
Network. Learn about concept design, character design, and other
techniques that cartoonists and video game designers use.

Poetry Writing for Beginning

Do you write poetry? Come explore the relationship between the visual
arts and the written word through writing instruction that incorporates
paintings and sculptures in the museum. Experiment with a variety of
poetic styles and forms in a workshop environment and receive personalized
feedback on your work.

Anyone Can
Draw
Do you think you can’t even
draw a stick figure? Try contour line drawing, better known as drawing
from the right side of the brain. We all have this skill, but don’t know
how to access the right side of the brain to learn to draw. Learn to
access the artist within you in this fun and easy drawing class that will
leave you with the ability to draw anything.

Adult Wheel
Do
you have basic knowledge of wheel throwing techniques but want to learn
more? Find out how professional potters pull handles, trim the bottom of

for the duration of this class.

Jewelry Making
Enjoy this introductory
class to metal jewelry making. Design a pendant or pin and use it as a
template to cut out a 2 to 3 layered metal (copper, nickel, silver, or
brass) piece using coping saws. Learn the process of cold-joining layers
of metal using wire or rivets.

Sculpture
Take
advantage of this rare three- day opportunity to learn by creating a
portrait sculpture in clay from a live model. The teacher, Bruce B. Everly,
Sr., a master sculptor, will guide you individually through this
sequential process regardless of your skill level, in a non-competitive
and friendly atmosphere.

Introduction to Oil Painting
The best way to learn to paint is by painting. Develop your own unique
painting style by exploring supplies, subject matter, and techniques, but
mostly by hands-on experience. Each student will receive individual

Instructors
Amanda Carder has
spent twenty plus years in the field of Graphic Design and Advertising,
specializing in print advertising and brand development. She credits this
experience for the development of her eye for composition. Making the
commitment to become a full time painter she has had the fortune to study
with such greats as David Leffel, Bill Davidson, and Peggy Everett.
Carders style is realism with an appreciation of impressionism. She has a
fascination with light, reflection and movement. Whether she paints a
landscape, a still life of a portrait, she hopes to include the viewer in
her intriguing journey.
Peggy
Cline works in the Education Department at the Booth Museum and
teaches art classes in their community outreach program. She has her
BFA from the University of Georgia in Fabric Design and her Art Education
certification from GA State University. She worked 8 years in
Advertising and Graphic Design. Since 1990, she has worked in
Art Education at various schools, art centers and museums.
Nikki Davidson is an
artist & teacher with more than 35 years of experience in drawing, oil
painting, acrylics, graphite and colored pencils. Her subject matter
covers a wide spectrum from still life to the Southwest & Native
Americans. Her work has won awards at both local & national levels & the
artist who inspires her most is Paul Calle.
Bruce B. Everly, Sr.
is a classical sculptor of portrait, figurative and wildlife subjects.
Everly born in 1937 in Glencoe, IL, attended New Trier High School,
Northwestern University, and graduated from Sir George Williams University
in Montreal. He studied art at Cranbrook Academy the Chicago Art Institute
and the Evanston Art Center. After retiring from the business world, Bruce
again focused his activities towards his passion for sculpting. His love
for classical sculpture has earned him recognition as a dedicated
professional and a teacher of his chosen art form. He sculpts and teaches
in his studio in Buford, GA, where he and his wife, Elizabeth, reside.
Joseph Falligan is
trained as a medical illustrator and a talented cartoonist that has worked
with the Cartoon Network. He is dedicated to working with people and
teaching them to enjoy and learn their own creativity in the visual arts.
Natalie Goodwin teaches science and art
classes at the Resource Center in Cartersville. Her undergraduate degree
is in folklore and ethnomusicology from Indiana University and her Masters
degree is in Creative Arts & Learning from Lesley University. She has
received additional training in the ceramic arts at the J. C. Campbell
Folk School in Brasstown, NC.
Brittany Holland has
served as the English Department Chair at Cass High School for six years.
She has over fourteen years of classroom experience working with students
of all ages and is currently pursuing her Masters in Professional
Writing degree at Kennesaw State University.
Ronnie Payne is a
full time Potter. His first pieces of pottery were turned at the age of
17, at Cass High School with Art Instructor, Bill Amos, on a handmade kick
wheel that he helped build. He apprenticed with Ron Cooper from 1997-2001
and opened Payne Pottery in 2001. In the studio, he formulates his own
stoneware clay and glaze colors and turns Utilitarian Art Pottery and
Traditional Folk Pottery. His work has been on display at the Bartow
County History Museum and the Cultural Arts Alliance in Cartersville,
Georgia, the Crawford County Historical Society Museum in Knoxville,
Georgia, and the Swan Coach House Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.
Charlene Such
graduated from LSUS in 1994 with a degree in art education. She taught
middle school in Shreveport, Louisiana for two years before moving to
Salem, Oregon. As a high school teacher in Salem she taught pottery,
drawing, painting, stained glass, jewelry making and mixed media for eight
years. During this time she earned a Masters degree from Portland State
University in curriculum and instruction. For two years before moving to
Georgia her family lived in Texas. During this time she was a stay at home
mother that painted interior murals and faux finishes on commission. She
also began learning the tricks and trades of face painting (see the
Snazaroo web site). Currently, Charlene enjoys working in various media
including but not limited to painting, mixed media and jewelry making.
