Civil War Comes Alive!
Saturday, April 28, 2012, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Soldier

Held on Saturday, April 28, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Civil War Comes Alive! is a day-long event to celebrate the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Activities will be held at Bartow History Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, and on the Booth Museum festival grounds.

Visitors will be able to experience what life was like on the home front, listen to authentic music, chat with soldiers from the Union and Confederate armies, view Civil War art and artifacts, watch cannon demonstrations, and so much more!

Plein Air

In conjunction with Civil War Comes Alive!, the Booth Artists Guild will host a Plein Air "Quick Draw Event." A maximum of 30 artists may enter this event and paint not only the beauty of the Booth grounds and building, but also soliders from the Union and Confederacy, camp life, cannon firings and much more. Come watch as the paintings come to life on the grounds, and view the completed works in the Booth Ballroom from 3:00-5:00 pm. Click here for a full schedule of events and more information.

Schedule of Events:

Canon

Quick Draw Event
Plein air painting throughout the grounds, judging and reception.
Painting from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, and reception from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.

Cannon Firing
Artillery demonstration on the Booth Museum North Lawn
At 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm , 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm.

Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln recites the Gettysburg Address on the Booth Museum Festival Grounds at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 3:00 pm.

8th Regiment Band
Performs on the Booth Museum Festival Grounds at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Historical Echoes Band
Performs on the Booth Museum Festival Grounds at 3:30 pm.

Other demonstrations on the Booth Museum festival grounds include: Medical, Blacksmith, Signaling, Infantry camps, Cavalry camp, Sutler and more.

Video Presentation of The Great Locomotive Chase through Bartow County
In 1994, Cartersville Cable Channel 4 in cooperation with the Etowah Valley Historical Society, produced an informative video on this historical event that took place during the Civil War and highlights the path the Great Chase took through Bartow County.
Showtimes in the Booth Theatre at 10:00 am, 11:10 am, 12:20 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:40 pm , and 3:50 pm.
