The Booth holds two regularly scheduled public lectures per month featuring authors, writers, historians and artists.
Art for Lunch is on the first Wednesday of every month from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm.
Evening lectures are held on the third Thursday evening each month at 7:00 pm.
All lectures are in the Booth Theatre; admission is free for members and volunteers and included with Museum admission
for not-yet-members. Ticketed events may have additional fees.

Space Silence Spirit: Maynard Dixon’s West

Through July 27, 2008 - Special Exhibition Gallery

This exhibition features works from two outstanding collections of Maynard Dixon’s work.

The A. P. Hayes collection features preliminary sketches, letters, photographs, and small finished works that help provide an overview of the artist’s life and the varied subjects he tackled during his lengthy career. Meanwhile, fifteen masterworks from the incomparable collection at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo, Utah offer an opportunity to see Dixon at his very best.

Hidden Heritage: Western Art Treasures from an Atlanta Collection

Through September 14, 2008 - Theatre Lobby Gallery

An Atlanta couple who shared a love for the West and Western art spent over twenty years building an excellent collection of Western images, including many excellent examples from members of the Cowboy Artists of America. This exhibition will survey the best of the collection, including powerful oil paintings, highly detailed pencil drawings and dramatic bronze sculptures.

Sculptural Works by Ed Archie Noisecat

July 29, 2008 - September 21, 2008 - Borderlands Gallery

Born and raised in British Columbia, Ed Noisecat was surrounded by the stories and art forms of the Native Americans of the Northwest Pacific Coast. Although formally trained in New York, and utilizing contemporary methods and materials in his sculpture, Ed continues to evoke the carving traditions of his ancestors. Recently he has won awards for large public art commissions, yet he continues to carve smaller works as well.

Children’s Saturday - Oh Say Can You See?

Take a look at all the different flags that have flown over the State of Georgia during our history, especially the American flag. Learn about artist Jasper Johns and his paintings featuring the American flag. Create your own flag design to take home.

Evening Entertainment - Public Cowboy No. 1: The Life and Times of Gene Autry

July 17, 7:00 pm

In words, film clips, and music, the legacy of Gene Autry comes to life. Author of Autry’s acclaimed biography, Public Cowboy No. 1: The Life and Times of Gene Autry, Holly George-Warren will read from her book and discuss Autry’s storied career, showing a montage of his cinematic highlights. Singer-songwriter Robert Burke Warren (also known as the popular children’s music artist Uncle Rock) will perform some of Autry’s greatest hits. Tickets are $5 for Booth Museum members; $10 for not-yet-members.

Jewelry Making (Ages 7 - 12)

Make your summer sparkle! Create your own bracelet that will last a lifetime. Taught by Charlene Such, this class is just $20 for Booth Museum members and $25 non-members and includes supplies. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 15

Jewelry Making (Ages 13 - 17)

July 16, 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Instructor: Charlene Such

Use forged (hammered) copper washers and nickel silver to create your own wearable piece of art. Taught by Charlene Such, this class is just $30 for Booth Museum members and $40 non-members and includes supplies. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 20

Jr. Wheel (Ages 7 and Up) - Art Camp

July 21 - 25, 9:00 am - Noon

Instructor: Natalie Goodwin

This is a great opportunity for those of you who have already spent some time in our studio, but want more time on the wheel. Learn how professional potters pull handles, trim the bottom of pots, and create pitchers. Taught by Natalie Goodwin, this class is just $125 for Booth Museum members and $135 non-members and includes supplies. After firing is complete, students will need to return to glaze projects. Glazing days: students may choose either August 1 or 4, 9:00 am - Noon. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 7

Booth Art Academy - Adult Classes ____________________________________________________

Jewelry Making

July 15 and 17, 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Instructor: Charlene Such

Enjoy this introductory class to metal jewelry making. Design a pendant or pin and use it as a template to cut out a 2 to 3 layered metal (copper, nickel, silver, or brass) piece using coping saws. Learn the process of cold-joining layers of metal using wire or rivets. Taught by Charlene Such, this class is just $60 for Booth Museum members and $80 non-members and includes supplies. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 10

Sculpture

July 18, 19, and 20, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Instructor: Bruce Everly

Take advantage of this rare three- day opportunity to learn by creating a portrait sculpture in clay from a live model. Master sculptor, Bruce B. Everly, Sr., will guide you through this sequential process regardless of your skill level, in a non-competitive and friendly atmosphere. This class is just $440 for Booth Museum members and $490 non-members and includes supplies. Class occupancy: Min. 8, Max. 15
