The Booth holds two regularly scheduled public lectures per month featuring authors, writers, historians and artists.
Art for Lunch is on the first Wednesday of every month from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm.
Evening lectures are held on the third Thursday evening each month at 7:00 pm.
All lectures are in the Booth Theatre; admission is free for members and volunteers and included with Museum admission
for not-yet-members. Ticketed events may have additional fees.

Seein’ Daylight, Seein’ Nightlight: Rodeo Photography of Mark Gilliland

Through June 1, 2008 - Borderlands Gallery

Mark Gilliland’s black and white photographs give us a behind the scenes look at the vernacular Rodeo traditions of small-town America. In fact, this exhibition features images taken at a recent rodeo in Ringgold just south of the Tennessee State Line in Georgia. The exhibition will include a photograph that was awarded Grand Prize in a competition for Cowboys and Indians Magazine.

Captured on Canvas! Gunfighters and Outlaws by Bob Boze Bell and Thom Ross

Through June 22, 2008 - Theatre Lobby Gallery

Bob Boze Bell and Thom Ross are life-long students of Western history; yet choose to create their artwork in a stylized manner that separates it from traditional Western realism. This exhibition focuses on their work related to famous individuals such as Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, “Wild Bill” Hickok, Billy “The Kid” and many other historical figures.

Space Silence Spirit: Maynard Dixon’s West

Through July 27, 2008 - Special Exhibition Gallery

This exhibition features works from two outstanding collections of Maynard Dixon’s work.

The A. P. Hayes collection features preliminary sketches, letters, photographs, and small finished works that help provide an overview of the artist’s life and the varied subjects he tackled during his lengthy career. Meanwhile, fifteen masterworks from the incomparable collection at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo, Utah offer an opportunity to see Dixon at his very best.

3rd Biennial Staff, Volunteer, and Member Art Exhibition

June 3 - July 27, 2008 - Borderlands Gallery

This exhibition is an opportunity for members, volunteers and staff of the Booth Museum to display the creative talent of the museum community. Museum members, volunteers and staff may submit two works of art for consideration by outside jurors who will curate the exhibition.

Hidden Heritage: Western Art Treasures from an Atlanta Collection

June 24, 2008 - September 14, 2008 - Theatre Lobby Gallery

An Atlanta couple who shared a love for the West and Western art spent over twenty years building an excellent collection of Western images, including many excellent examples from members of the Cowboy Artists of America. This exhibition will survey the best of the collection, including powerful oil paintings, highly detailed pencil drawings and dramatic bronze sculptures.

Art for Lunch - Maynard Dixon, Western Icon

June 4, 12:15 p.m.

Maynard Dixon’s reputation as a Western artist has risen substantially in recent years. He is viewed as one of the few artists who could apply modern art techniques to Western subjects in a way that both satisfies critics and mesmerizes Western art collectors. Join Dr. Suzan Campbell, Gund Curator of Western Art, History, and Culture at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art for a discussion of the life and times of Maynard Dixon.

Children’s Saturday - Crazy About Cactus

June 14, 10:00 a.m. - Noon

Can a cactus make you talk? Yes it can. Cacti have prickly spines that cause you to say “Ouch!” when you touch them. Learn all about the different cactus you would encounter if you were to explore the landscape of the American Southwest. Enjoy storytelling featuring the book Cactus Hotel. Make your own cactus sculpture out of wire.

Evening Entertainment - Honi Deaton and Dream
& Meet the Artists Reception

June 19, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

View the 3rd Biennial Staff, Volunteer, and Member Art Exhibition, meet the artists in the Borderlands Gallery, and enjoy refreshments in the adjacent room. Then, at 7:00 pm in the Booth Theatre, enjoy the sounds of Honi Deaton and Dream. This dynamic bluegrass group has traveled coast to coast and into Canada performing traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. Based in Georgia and featuring the multi-talented Honi Deaton, this group is sure to please. Tickets for Honi Deaton and Dream are $5 for Booth Museum members; $10 for not-yet-members.

Jr. Pottery (Ages 7 and Up) - Art Camp

June 2 - 6, 9:00 am - Noon

Instructor: Natalie Goodwin

Come play in the clay! There will be all new hand-building projects, and plenty of time to work on the potter’s wheel. This program is for all levels of clay enthusiasts. Taught by Natalie Goodwin, this class is just $125 for Booth Museum members and $135 non-members and includes supplies. After firing is complete, students will need to return to glaze projects. Glazing days: students may choose either June 13 or 16, 9:00 am - Noon. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 15

Mixed Media Fun (Ages 7 - 12) - Art Camp

June 3 - 6, 9:00 am - Noon

Instructor: Peggy Cline

Try it all…all kinds of different art-making materials and techniques…in this fun-filled art camp. Explore the fabulous art collection of the Booth Western Art Museum. Meet and work with a professional artist. Try your hand at a variety of art projects throughout the week including drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media. Taught by Peggy Cline, this class is just $100 for Booth Museum members and $110 non-members and includes supplies. Note: This class begins at the Booth Western Art Museum each day at 9:00 am. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 15

Cartooning (Ages 7 and Up) - Art Camp

June 9 - June 13, 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Instructor: Joseph Falligan

Do you love to draw? Do you enjoy cartoons and comic books? Then this is the camp for you! Learn from a real cartoonist who has worked with the Cartoon Network. Learn about concept design, character design, and other techniques that cartoonists and video game designers use. Taught by Joseph Falligan, this class is just $130 for Booth Museum members and $150 non-members and includes supplies. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 20

3-D Sculpture (Ages 7 - 12) - Art Camp

June 17 - 20, 9:00 am - Noon

Instructor: Peggy Cline

Move from the 2 dimensional world of paper and canvas into the third dimension of sculpture. Discover the 3-D world of art production using model magic, polymer clay, paper, wire and found objects as you take your artistic skills to the next level.

Art Bugs (Ages 4 - 6) - Art Camp

June 24 - 26, 9:00 - 11:00 am or  1:00 - 3:00 pm

Instructor: Natalie Goodwin Bring a rainbow of color to your summer! Come get your hands on different types of art media with all new activities. Explore everything from paints to shadow puppets in this fun-packed camp. Taught by Natalie Goodwin, this class is just $60 for Booth Museum members and $70 non-members and includes supplies. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 15

Adult Wheel

June 16 - 20, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Instructor: Ronnie Payne

Do you have basic knowledge of wheel throwing techniques but want to learn more? Find out how professional potters pull handles, trim the bottom of pots, and create pitchers. Each student will have a potter’s wheel to use for the duration of this class. Taught by Ronnie Payne, this class is just $120 for Booth Museum members and $145 non-members and includes supplies. After firing is complete, students will need to return to glaze projects.

Glazing days: students may choose either June 27 or 30, 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 7

Anyone Can Draw

June 21 and 28, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Instructor: Nikki Davidson

Do you think you can’t even draw a stick figure? Try contour line drawing, better known as drawing from the right side of the brain. We all have this skill, but don’t know how to access the right side of the brain to learn to draw. Learn to access the artist within you in this fun and easy drawing class that will leave you with the ability to draw anything. Taught by Nikki Davidson, this class is just $195 for Booth Museum members and $220 non-members. A materials list is provided at registration. Class occupancy: Min. 5, Max. 15
