Education Overview
Groups Tours and School Programs A daily guided tour of the permanent collection is
offered every day at 1:30 pm. Groups of 15 or more booking in advance
receive a discount on their admission. Volunteer tour guides are available
for groups that request them.
The Museum Education
Department offers school programs designed for specific grade
levels, based on state education guidelines. School programs include
the following programs: Wrangler, TaTanka, Presidents and Heroes, Art
Explorers, Dogies Ponies and More, Cowboys Indians and Art, and The Union Dissolved:
American Presidents and the Civil War. For more information on these

Discovery Box Program Life on a Cattle Trail:
Invite a member of the Museum’s education staff into your classroom
to present a unique lesson about life on a cattle trail. Designed to
augment classroom lessons about the American West, this program introduces
students to the role of the American cowboy, and the names and locations
of the early cattle trails, while featuring artwork from the Museum’s
collection.

Family and Adult
Programs The Education
Department also offers a number of lectures, demonstrations, discussions,
film screenings and family events throughout the year such as the
Cowboy Gathering in March, Member
Appreciation Day in August and Cowboy
Symposium and Festival in October. Information on
upcoming events is listed on the Calendar of Events page, the Museum’s
automated phone answering system and on schedules available at the
Museum’s front desk.
Adult Group Tour
Additions Add
a little “kick” to your group’s visit to the Museum by including one of
these add-on programs. These programs are recommended for groups of 40 or
more and are scheduled during regular Museum hours at the price listed.
Programs scheduled outside normal Museum hours may require an additional
fee. Scheduling is based on talent availability and the cost of the
program does not include Museum admission. Any of the add-on programs can

Booth Art Academy
Art classes for children and adults are offered at the
Booth Art Academy
through out the year. Classes are held at the TRC (Teacher Resource
Center) building at 1 Gilmer St. unless otherwise noted. To sign up
for an Art class, call Central Scheduling at 770-606-5699.
Children's
Saturday Children's Saturday is an educational program for children ages 4
to 12 and their parents, and is offered the second Saturday of each month
from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Programs relate to the Museum's permanent and
traveling collection and focus on teaching children about the American
West through art, literature, entertainment, teaching and hands-on
activities. A nominal fee for materials is charged. Click here for upcoming Children's Saturday programs.
Art for
Lunch Art for
Lunch takes place on the first Wednesday of each month
at 12:15 pm. Lectures by artists and historians coincide with current
exhibits in the museum. Admission is free for members and included with
Museum admission for not-yet-members.
Adult Education Evening
Program
Adult education
programs are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm.
Presenters are artists, authors, historians, professors and
entertainers.
Speaker’s Bureau
The Speaker’s Bureau provides outreach programs about the
Museum for civic clubs, senior adult groups, church groups and business or
government organizations. Topics include information about the Museum’s
art collection, booking group tours, special events offered during the
year and membership opportunities. If you would like to have someone from
the Museum present an outreach program to your organization, call Spencer

Adult Art Workshops Daylong hands-on Art
Workshops for adults are offered twice a year during the Cowboy
Poetry Gathering in March and the Cowboy Symposium in
October. More

Booth Art Academy at the
Resource Center.
Community
Service The Booth Western Art Museum is working
with the youth in our community by bringing our community outreach programs to the Cartersville Boys and Girls
Club and to the Hands of Christ after-school program. We also offer Girl Scout programs.

Character Education Word The City of Cartersville and
Bartow County School Systems in cooperation with the Cartersville-Bartow
County Chamber of Commerce have adopted Character Education words for each
month of the year. These words are used to teach character attributes of
value to every student. The Booth Western Art Museum supports this effort
by the school systems and the Chamber of Commerce. Each month on this
website, the Character Education word for the month is featured using art
from the Museum’s collection to illustrate a particular trait and

Georgia Youth Cowboy
Poetry Contest The
Booth Western Art Museum is sponsoring the Georgia Youth Poetry Contest in
conjunction with the 5th Annual Southeastern Cowboy Gathering.
Doc Stovall, a well-respected songwriter and cowboy poet in his own right,
facilitates the contest. He is available to set up workshops for leaders
and students in your area and can be contacted at 770-387-1265 or at docs@boothmuseum.org.
The
contest is open to students in three age groups: grades five and six,
grades seven and eight and grades nine through twelve. Fifteen finalists
in each age group will compete on March 8, 2008, at the Museum during the
Gathering. Three finalists in each age group will return to the Museum on
Saturday April 19, 2008, to compete for cash prizes. The deadline for
